Kaizen, the concept of continual improvement, relates directly to our creative process model from yesteday's page.
The concept of continual improvement--building on prior learning and moving forward--relates as much to personal growth as it does to the business world. A business model diagram looks like this, although applications of the diagram to other examples are endless:
In all arts (and in life), we go through a process of Kaizen. If it isn't within the work we are creating, it is happening within who we are as people/artists.
Deveoping a culture of continuous improvement is a bigger goal, something that we might aspire to in our class.
Ryan Adams, in re-imaging Taylor Swift's 1989 album, continues to challenge himself through how he is inspired by other artists. It seems as though there are truly no original ideas, just ideas that are mutated, borrowed, adopted, or inspired by others.
Perhaps this is the question: are there truly any original ideas?
In our class, I hope that you experience Kaizen. This class will be difficult and challenging. That part is true. If it is not, you need to apply and challenge yourself more. The class is what you make it.
Our first assignment was to adapt a story told by classmates for the stage, a short scene developed, rehearsed, and performed. All recording will be taken and posted on the blog.
Your second assignment (Grade 11/12 only) is to reflect on the concepts shared in the last 3 posts.
